Eco-puzzler Terra Nil has today received its first free post-launch update, with developer Free Lives and publisher Devolver Digital sharing that the ‘Vita Nova’ update is now available for all players of the game. This update aims to expand upon the existing gameplay experience, introducing five new levels, nine new buildings, an updated world map, and what is pitched as a “dramatic overhaul” of the game’s wildlife system. The Vita Nova update for Terra Nil is available now on PC and Netflix, with a release on the Switch coming soon.
Notable new levels are Polluted Bay, which features a landscape divided by a polluted river, and Scorched Caldera, where players must transform a volcanic crater into a freshwater lake. These levels are designed to test players’ reclamation skills in unique ways.
The improved world map, now fully 3D and rotatable, aims to offer a more personalised overview of players’ progress in restoring life to barren landscapes. Additionally, the improvements to the wildlife system seek to ensure that animals emerge more naturally during gameplay and have more complex needs. For an additional strategic layer to the game, new species are introduced to the ecosystem, including the jaguar.
Terra Nil aims to offer players a “meditative twist” on the city-builder genre, where players use eco-tech to convert desolate wastelands into thriving ecosystems. The goal is to purify soil, clean oceans, plant trees, and reintroduce wildlife, then recycle everything and move on, leaving no trace behind.
