Set for release in late-2024, Skydance Interactive used the PlayStation State of Play livestream to showcase the first gameplay footage and further details on Behemoth. This is a dark fantasy game with the ambitious goal of stretching what is possible inside the PlayStation VR2’s headset, depicting a grim new world teeming with mystery and dangerous… great and small… and of course, one which you can’t escape from just by looking away from the television screen.
When you enter the Forsaken Lands, one thing is clear: You are not welcome here.
Everything and everyone wants to kill you.
Are you bold enough to forge ahead?
Behemoth is the latest game from Skydance Interactive, who previously worked on The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. This new title is set in the Forsaken Lands, a grim and dangerous environment filled with remnants of a once-great civilization. Players will navigate through snowy landscapes, ancient ruins, and towering structures while facing numerous threats, including formidable enemies and, true to its name, colossal Behemoths. Equipped with a grappling hook and enhanced physical abilities, players must scale walls, towers, and cliffs, strategically overcoming obstacles and enemies.
Behemoth seeks to build upon the physics-driven melee combat system from The Walking Dead series, enhancing the gore-tech and dismemberment systems. Players will engage in intense combat against skilled warriors rather than mindless zombies, requiring them to utilize various weapons and tactics to survive.
The primary objective in Behemoth is to lift an ancient curse by defeating the monstrous Behemoths. These towering adversaries, each offering a unique challenge, demanding all of the player’s honed skills and courage. The game hopes to provide a visceral experience, capturing the intense emotions of battling these massive foes… and hopefully not lose-your-lunch motion sickness.
Everything in this game is designed relative to the Behemoths. It’s important that players are awed by the size and scale of each boss. You’re literally fighting a mountain.
Brian Murphy, Game Director, Skydance’s Behemoth
I can’t overstate what it feels like to fight a Behemoth in VR. We talked a lot about the “pucker factor” of each encounter. When the Seal swings that flail and it smashes to the ground, your adrenaline spikes. That’s what we were after, a visceral response from our players.
Building on our work on The Walking Dead games, we have continued to push our gore-tech and dismemberment systems in a way that players should find truly satisfying.
