Dynasty Warriors: Origins Aims to Welcome In Most Thrilling Era of the Musou Genre Yet

For publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Omega Force, the Dynasty Warriors franchise has been their flagship property many decades, with its roots as the 1997 fighting game exclusively for the PlayStation 1. But with almost three decades of development under their belt and, granted, a less than stellar reception with some of their past flagships, the series was well overdue for some changes. Described as their “most intense musou game yet”, the studios have unveiled Dynasty Warriors: Origins, to be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2025.

What won’t change is the series’ hallmark 1 vs. 1,000 action, with massive armies populating the screen and engaging in large-scale battles. However aiming for the number of mobs to be more of a hinderance than just combo fodder, they claim that players will need to act swiftly as they navigate the battlefield against the unprecedented size and scale of enemy armies that overwhelm the battlefield. Coordination with allied armies and real-time battle tactics will be essential as players slice through waves of soldiers in some of what is hoped will be the most tension-filled fights in the series’ history.

Furthermore, rather than following the canonical storyline through the eyes of well-established figures, Dynasty Warriors: Origins will take a leaf from their Empires sub-series and tell the story from the perspective of a nameless hero. Players will experience the historical tale of war as chaos erupts throughout the Three Kingdoms, showcasing the vast lands and its most ruthless generals in a new light.

For almost 30 years, the DYNASTY WARRIORS franchise has been built by delivering not only a sense of realism on the battlefield, but by the exhilarating action of 1 vs. 1,000 gameplay. With DYNASTY WARRIORS: ORIGINS, we return to these roots and deliver the non-stop action to not only our most loyal fans of the series, but to all game fans worldwide, delivering the most thrilling warfare we’ve ever been able to create!
