Closely following the highly successful release of Persona 3 Reload, a remake of what was once considered a spin-off game in the Shin Megami Tensei series, ATLUS and their ATLUS West international division has confirmed the existence of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, an enhanced release of the previously Nintendo Switch exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V from a couple of years back. Currently in development, this new instalment is being released on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S gaming platforms, and will feature the entirety of the original game, in addition to a new story path, new areas, demons, and music, an enhanced combat system and more.
When a grisly murder scene in modern-day Tokyo blocks the protagonist’s walk home, an unplanned detour leaves him buried and unconscious. He finds himself in a wasteland ravaged by apocalypse now called Da’at. Before bloodthirsty demons can claim his life, a saviour emerges, and they unite to become a mighty being, neither human nor demon: a Nahobino.
In Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, players will be able to choose between two paths – the story told in Shin Megami Tensei V, the Canon of Creation, or the brand-new Canon of Vengeance. Those who choose the latter path will meet new characters, an enigmatic cohort of demons called the Qadištu, a new dungeon and map to explore and more. Regardless of what option you choose, the original Shin Megami Tensei V battle system, demon merging and field exploration have been evolved and expanded.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and is scheduled to release on 21 June 2024.
