Due to the events that happened last year, voice actor and showrunner Justin Roiland is no longer involved with the animated series he was working on and actively voiced in, including Solar Opposites and Rick and Morty. While a convenient ‘voice changing ray’ in Solar Opposites allowed a seamless transition between voice actors, with such iconic and established roles such as those of Rich Sanchez and Morty Smith, that wouldn’t cut it.
With Season 7 of Rick and Morty set to commence on 15 October 2023 and after a lot of teasing, the season’s official trailer provides our first look at the new voice actors – even if the VAs have not been officially announced as of writing. While not perfect recreations (particularly around the higher-toned Rick voices), they do a suitable job of capturing the essence of both, without being complete voice doubles.
Outside of the characters voiced by Roiland, all other voice actors appear to be continuing with their roles, including Spencer Grammer as Summer, Chris Parnell as Jerry, Sarah Chalke as Beth and Susan Sarandon as Dr. Wong.
