Marvelous Europe has today declared their intention to publish GalaxyTrail’s latest game, Freedom Planet 2, on video game consoles digitally in Europe and Australia. Initially released for the PC via Steam last year, Freedom Planet 2 is pitched as a high-speed female-centric platformer, and is poised to release in Winter 2023 (Summer 2023 for those of us in the southern hemisphere) on current Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
Freedom Planet 2 is the sequel to the 2014 action-platformer Freedom Planet. Players revisit the captivating world of Avalice, where they confront an ancient adversary. Since the first game, the three familiar protagonists have honed their unique skills, becoming even more formidable. Lilac boasts enhanced speed with her Dragon Boost, Carol achieves greater heights with her Jump Disc and motorcycle, while Milla employs a shield for a more strategic gameplay approach. Neera, a new playable character, is introduced with her distinctive Frost Arts, designed to vanquish adversaries.
Freedom Planet 2 encourages players to strategically approach each stage, ensuring a gameplay experience tailored to individual preferences. The game is also pitched as offering “a carefully tuned balance of speed and exploration”, “gorgeous 2D visuals featuring refined character sprites”, and ultimately offering an expansion on what “made the original a modern classic for a bigger, better, and more enriching retro experience”.
Freedom Planet 2 will be released on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S by year’s end, and is already available on the PC.
