Video game publisher Gameforge has announced that the 16-bit pixel platformer game Tiny Thor, developed by Asylum Square, will be accessible to gamers on the Nintendo Switch platform starting 3 August 2023. This release will be available via the Nintendo eShop. This coincides with the news that an update for the already-available PC version will be rolled out at months end, bringing with it bug fixes and an accessibility mode for a smoother gaming experience, particularly for beginners. To mark the arrival of the game on the Nintendo Switch, a 20% Steam Sale will be launched, running from 31 July until 7 August inclusive.
Tiny Thor has been developed by Asylum Square and is published under Gameforge’s IndieForge label. The game seeks to showcase a blend of old-school indie allure with responsive controls and contemporary gameplay dynamics, and offering gamers a compelling journey complemented by 16-bit graphics and captivating narrative.
In Tiny Thor, players take on the role of a diminutive Norse protagonist, guiding him through 36 complex levels that are filled with diverse challenges. Armed with a miniature Mjölnir, players traverse the realms of Asgard, combating adversaries who aim to hinder Thor’s progress. Along the journey, players can unlock power-ups for their mighty hammer. The game features pixel art from renowned artist Henk Nieborg, whose previous work includes Spyro: A Hero’s Tail, Contra 4, and the Shantae series. The game also boasts an original soundtrack from Chris Hülsbeck, known for his work on Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and Turrican.
Jochen Heizmann, the co-founder of Asylum Square, expressed his excitement about Tiny Thor’s expansion to the Nintendo Switch in making this announcement:
We’re very happy that the mightiest, but tiniest, god of thunder is making his way onto the Nintendo Switch. Not only does it open up Tiny Thor to a whole new audience, but the ability to take his adventure on the go means that you can embody the diminutive demigod and continue his quest from anywhere.
Flavio Canciani, the lead producer of Tiny Thor, reflected on the positive response they’ve received for the PC release, adding a light-hearted remark that their anticipation for the Switch release has them “bouncing like mini-Mjölnir”:
Our excitement for the Switch release has us bouncing like mini-Mjölnir. We’ve seen the hugely positive response to the PC release and are so happy that PC players are enjoying Thor’s quest. Now it’s time to bring the wondrous journey to Switch, where we sincerely hope that console players will enjoy Thor’s adventure too.
