Following the game’s late-April 2023 release on the PC, iOS and Android platforms, developer and publisher HoYoverse has shared when their PlayStation version of the free-to-play tactical RPG Honkai: Star Rail will be made available. The good news is that we finally have a launch window, the somewhat sadder news is that we are still several months away from it.
Unlike the original v1.0 release of Genshin Impact which was made available on the PlayStation 4 the same day as its iOS, Android and PC clients – the PlayStation version of Honkai: Star Rail will be released many months post-launch, with a Q4 2023 launch window shared today. Furthermore, it was confirmed that only a PlayStation 5 client would be made available, which may lock some players out but will hopefully be a long-term client that players can enjoy for years to come without the transition to alternate platforms that typically come with live-service games such as this. The client will feature cross-save and cross-play functionality with other versions, so you can enjoy your game progress across multiple questions. However it is yet to be determined whether you will be locked to accounts in specific regions on the PlayStation 5 client, as was the case with Genshin Impact.
Also during Summer Game Fest 2023, HoYoverse also shared a new trailer for Honkai: Star Rail. The trailer highlights a forthcoming character, Luka, whose action in the game were seen for the first time. Luka is an underworld fighter with a mechanical arm who exemplifies optimism and carefreeness. Transitioning from the fight cage to the battlefield, he harnesses his strength and showcase his expertise in mixed martial arts to safeguard the inhabitants of the Underworld. The trailer seeks to give players a glimpse of Luka’s pivotal role and combat prowess to prepare everyone for Luka’s upcoming arrival in future patches.
Developed and published by HoYoverse, Honkai: Star Rail is now available on the PC, iOS and Android platforms – with a PlayStation 5 version expected in Q4 2023. You can check out my full review of the game’s v1.0 release HERE.
