In a surprise announcement earlier this morning, ACQUIRE Corp. announced that they are entering the self-publishing space, and will commence this arrangement with a new twin-stick shooter game titled XALADIA: Rise of the Space Pirates X2. The studio has been the development force behind a number of games in the past, including Tenchu, Way of the Samurai, AKIBA’S TRIP, and the Octopath Traveler series.
XALADIA: Rise of the Space Pirates X2 is pitched as a twin-stick, single-player shooter game featuring non-scrolling, single-screen battle, varied turret construction, covered defense and 3D graphics.
Players take on the role of a planetary reconnaissance soldier in a terraformed planet society during a violent and destructive alien space-pirate raid. In short, the soldier who does not cover the screen with a barrage of missiles, lasers, barriers and bots will be destroyed by the enemy! XALADIA’s also boasts a scalable, customizable weapons system, which ACQUIRE claim sets it apart from other twin-stick shooters.
Commenting on this announcement President of ACQUIRE Corp Takuma Endo had the following to say:
Our new self-publishing unit is filled with the brightest young game development minds in Japan designing under the tutelage of ACQUIRE’s award-winning creative team. XALADIA completely modernizes the classic twin-stick shooter and is just the beginning for our newly formed team. We look forward to revealing more projects very soon.
No formal release date for XALADIA: Rise of the Space Pirates X2 has been locked in as of writing, but they have provided a tentative Fall 2023 release window. The game is in active development for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam).
