Hellena Taylor Comments on Not Reprising Role in Bayonetta 3

Having been the voice behind the game’s titular character since the release of Bayonetta in 2010 on the Xbox360 and PlayStation 3, Hellena Taylor presented arguably one of the best English language voices in video gaming in recent memory – providing a good balance of charm, demonic charm and sexiness that it is hard to imagine anyone else in the role. However, later this month, Bayonetta 3 will be released on the Nintendo Switch with a different voice actor than Taylor. While some were left wondering why the publishers would leave such an iconic voice actor off the cast listing, and even with purported scheduling issues worked around their schedule, on Twitter, we have learnt exactly why.

On their Twitter account (@hellenataylor), Hellena Taylor shared the reason why she was not involved in Bayonetta 3 – it all coming down to the sum of money they offered her to do all voice-overs for the character – $4,000 USD.

Friends, Worldlings, Bayonutters. Hear ye!

I do not wish to take away from what Hellena Taylor says in her three part video series, so I strongly advise you to watch them for yourselves. But when you have someone who has dedicated years towards developing a character suddenly to have her ask fans to boycott the newest release – it says something. This is the latest in a series of concerning revelations over the years about English voice actors being underpaid, which is disappointing to say the least.
