Star Citizen’s Ship Showdown Head-to-Head Matchups Now Underway

As they have been doing for the past few years, Cloud Imperium Games is asking fans of their long-in-development game Star Citizen to vote for their favourite ships in an annual Ship Showdown.

Split into ‘Community Call’, ‘Live Showdown’ and ‘Winner Announced’ periods, we are now in the ‘Live Showdown’ phase, where two ships go head-to-head for community votes. The winning ship of all eight brackets will will continue on, and become freely flyable in-game for a limited time starting 8 September 2022. As the competition continues until 15 September 2022, the top 4 competitors will receive a special paint option and in-game challenge coin for their manufacturer, while the winner will receive a collectable in-game ship model. Nothing particularly fancy, but nice to be given a few ships to try out from next week.

Star Citizen's Ship Showdown Head-to-Head Matchups Now Underway 1

To date, two match-ups have happened, The Redeemer vs The Gladius (The Redeemer winning) and The Scorpius and The Vanguard Warden (The Scorpius winning). Today’s match-up are two explorer ships – The 600i Explorer and The Terrapin (Vote Here). The other Top 16 ships include the Carrack, 400i, Cutlass Black, Mercury, Freelancer Max, Raft, Avenger Titan, Eclipse, C8X Pisces Expedition and the Mole. To be eligible for a Top 16 spot, the community had to post creative submissions based on each ship.

In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than $435 million USD through on-going crowdfunding. Please keep in mind should you decide to purchase towards Star Citizen, that this is an incomplete project and that you are pledging towards an extended crowdfunding campaign with no 100% guarantee of a finished product.
