DreamHack Festival Melbourne Celebrates Attendance of Over 21,000 at Inaugural Event

ESL Gaming last weekend hosted their first ever Australian DreamHack Festival at Melbourne & Olympic Parks, and post-event, have shared that attendance numbers totalled just over 21,000 guests. The inaugural event consisted of opportunities involving both local talent and international stars of gaming – along with a range of festivities revolving around esports, content creation, live music, LAN tournaments and more.

In terms of the major eSports events, local eSports team The Chiefs walked away with victories in League of Legends and Halo Infinite professional tournaments, while the Brazillian team paiN Gaming walked away with $50,000 USD in prize money for the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament. Winning teams in all three events can be found below:

  • 1st. paiN Gaming (Brazil) – $50,000 USD
  • 2nd. Imperial Esports (Brazil) – $20,000 USD
  • 3rd-4th. Entropiq (Europe) – $10,000 USD
  • 3rd-4th. Wings Up Gaming (China) – $10,000 USD

While no Australian team cracked the Top 4, ANZ teams did crack the 5-6th (GRAYHOUND) and 7th-8th (Vertex Esports) positions.

After a few challenging years without in-person events, DreamHack Melbourne has demonstrated that the appetite for top-tier live gaming & esports content is now higher than ever.

Here’s hoping that these numbers continue to support future interest in eSports opportunities across Australia – on a local, national and international level.
