Pentiment to Launch on Xbox and PC Platforms from 15 November

Announced as part of Microsoft’s Gamescom Summer Showcase, we received confirmation that Obsidian Entertainment’s upcoming 16th-Century narrative adventure game – Pentiment – will be launching on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC platforms starting 15 November 2022. This is in addition to confirmation Pentiment will be available as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription service at launch.

Directed by Obsidian’s Studio Design Director Josh Sawyer, Pentiment will see players fill the shoes of Andreas Maler, a journeyman artist working in the bygone scriptorium of Kiersau Abbey during a time of great social unrest. While finishing his masterpiece, Andreas inadvertently becomes entangled in a series of murders that take place over 25 years. Peasants, thieves, craftsmen, monks, nuns, nobles, and even saints must be investigated and interrogated to expose the truth.

It will be up to players to decide Andreas’ choices, from his educational background and lifestyle to how he investigates the murders. One day he may be digging up a dead monk in the abbey cemetery, the next might be spent eavesdropping on peasant gossip at the ladies’ spinning bee. Every decision and accusation he makes carries consequences that will impact the tightly-knit Alpine community for generations to come.

This will be a rather affordable game, at only $19.99 USD or local equivalent via the Xbox Marketplace, Windows Store and Steam. Pre-orders via all supported platforms are now being taken. Expect to hear more about Pentiment in the weeks and months leading to its launch. But even if this is not typically your sort of game, got to admit that its aesthetic style has much charm to it.
