A new event has started for the perpetually-in-Alpha sci-fi game Star Citizen, with developers Cloud Imperium Games announcing the in-universe Foundation Festival 2022 initiative. Pitched as a “month-long civic program that endeavors to strengthen community spirit by encouraging Citizens and civilians to volunteer with local and imperial organizations” in the lore, this is instead an event that looks at inviting veterans of the game to take new players under their wing – with both mentor and mentee to receive prizes at the end.
Players can become guides to new players, being a friendly face for newcomers to meet and take the place of the game’s (currently non-existent) tutorial mode. From now until the Foundation Festival ends on 25 July, mentors will be able to rack up the following aesthetic rewards by undertaking guide sessions:
- One successful guide session (at least 30 minutes) – Black Foundation Festival in-game beanie
- Two successful guide sessions -Turquoise Foundation Festival in-game beanie
- Three successful guide sessions – Foundation Festival in-game cap
Furthermore, exclusive Foundation Festival-themed paints for the completion of a single guide session in a particular category for both mentor and mentee.. Multiple prizes can be claimed from a single session, as the reward is based on the recruit’s endorsements at the end of the session. The top guides for each session type over the period will also be eligible to claim a permanent ship for their collection:
- Basics: Drake Cutlass Black
- Vehicle Combat: Aegis Gladius
- FPS Combat: Anvil Valkyrie
- Mining: MISC Prospector
- Missions: MISC Freelancer
- Trading: Drake Caterpillar
- Touring: Origin 600i Touring
- Miscellaneous: Crusader Mercury Star Runner
- Refueling: Anvil Arrow
- Medical: Drake Cutlass Red
This event commences with the running of a Free Fly event, allowing anyone to sign up for Star Citizen and check out whats what before committing to any pledge. Those looking to pledge towards St ar Citizen before 18 July can nab themselves one of two Starter Packs, with a slight price drop and a Foundation Festival ship paint.
