Valkyrie Profile Franchise Receives New Chapter with Valkyrie Elysium

One of the underappreciated gems from the PlayStation 2 era, Square Enix has confirmed that the Valkyrie Profile franchise will be receiving a new release, albeit without original developer Tri-Ace at the helm. Square Enix has confirmed that work is underway on Valkyrie Elysium, an action-RPG which is scheduled to launch on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Windows PC later this year. Developed by the team at Soleil Ltd, Valkyrie Elysium is pitched to be “[drawing] on the richness of Norse mythologyto present an original story set in a world on the brink of destruction, full of danger and fast-paced action combat”.

Information on the game is limited, but curious gamers should keep their eyes out for more specifics in the coming weeks and months. But for your first look at what to expect, view the Valkyrie Elysium announcement trailer below.

The trailer provides a first glimpse of the game’s protagonist, a young Valkyrie who is entrusted with the fate of the world by the All-Father, the highest of gods and ruler of all creation. She will face various enemies on her quest and must utilize a variety of weapons, magic and the power of her allies to prevent Ragnarok—the destruction of the world.

According to Square Enix:

VALKYRIE ELYSIUM calls on its roots with music from series regular Motoi Sakuraba while driving the series forward in a fresh, new direction with classic combat mechanics, such as finishing moves and combo systems, reimagined for an action-RPG. The game also features character designs by Yuya Nagai of CyDesignation, Inc.
