Shin Megami Tensei V Development Team Share Special Message to Mark Global Release

For a first time around such a major project for the developer and publisher ATLUS, RPG Shin Megami Tensei V has launched simultaneously across the globe. Even for major projects from ATLUS such as Persona 5, there is often a good half-year delay as localisation work takes place and marketing/promotion takes place for western audiences. But, regardless of where you are in North America, PAL Regions or Asia – you can head into a store and purchase the game exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.

The development team behind Shin Megami Tensei V, in the hours leading to todays global launch, shared the below message to all fans – commenting on the decision to make it a global launch, acknowledging the challenges faced and sending some initial comments on the game’s mechanics/narrative.

You can view it below, both in the original article and in full-text should anything happen to the post, however unlikely, in the future.

Shin Megami Tensei V is finally almost here.

A global release like this is a first for Atlus, and we faced numerous, unexpected challenges, not just within the dev team but throughout the company in our marketing and localisation departments.

It was a new experience for all of us but knowing that we have so many fans eagerly waiting for this game – and knowing these fans will be able to experience the game at the same time all around the globe – was what ultimately what kept us going and made these challenges worth it.

SMTV will allow players to tinker with demon fusions and enjoy a number of tactical battles – staple features of the SMT series – but this time within the all-new world of Da’at, which is quite different from the series’ previous dungeons.

The rather dark story that goes beyond the usual “good vs. evil” narrative is also another major highlight, and we hope many new RPG lovers who aren’t familiar with the series will give this game a try as well.

We hope as many people as possible will enjoy the game. For us, the biggest honor is knowing people genuinely had fun playing it.
