Developed by the team at Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the Dark Pictures Anthology is a collection of standalone interactive drama survival horror games. The collection of games are successors to the studio’s earlier horror works on the PlayStation 4, in particular Until Dawn, although bringing such experiences to more consoles.
The third chapter in the anthology is titled The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes, which has today been confirmed for release on 22 October 2021 worldwide. In development for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC – this latest chapter seeks to deliver players “moments of tension and terror”, both alone in a single-player mode or with up to five players through a multiplayer mode.
House of Ashes is set in Iraq in 2003. In the shadow of the Zagros mountains a military unit comes under fire from Iraqi forces. The resulting firefight causes an earth tremor where both sides fall into the ruins of a buried Sumerian temple. With all communication severed, our protagonists are trapped in a terrifying underworld they must navigate to escape – unaware that something ancient and evil has awakened in the shadows and has found a new prey to hunt.
Horrific discoveries and impossible decisions now face the survivors as they strive to escape the terrifying threat they awakened. Will they each prioritize their own survival, or put aside their fears and personal rivalries to fight together as one against these underworld monsters?
Both physical and digital editions of The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes will be available, including a special Pazuzu Edition (containing a 9x9x10cm figure of the titular underworld creature) and a triple pack bundle containing Man of Medan, Little Hope and House of Ashes.
