We may have just gotten over the Invictus Fleet Week festivities, but developer Cloud Imperium Games are rolling out the red carpet for their Alien Week festivities in Star Citizen. The hot-ticket item in this event, this time more focused on website happenings, is the commencement of concept sales for the Gatac Railen.
Unlike virtually every other alien ship which has been flyable in Star Citizen to date, the Gatac Railen comes from a brand new ship manufacturer, and takes on the role of a cargo/transport ship rather than a combat-oriented craft. Designed to be crewed by both Humans and Xi’an alike, the Gatac Railen offers spacious dimensions of 53m x 52m x 67m, support for 4 crew members including living quarters and a cargo capacity of 320 SCU.
Outside of its cool, unique design which gives it a mecha-like appearance, it offers unique innovations including grav-lev technology, nutrition amphora and scratch walls for Xi’an crew members and appropriate commodes and beddings for humanoids. You can read more about the craft in the brochure HERE.
As this is the first time that the Gatac Railen has been on-sale, it is possible to buy the craft with Lifetime Insurance. It can be purchased standalone for either $220.00 USD (Warbond) or $247.50 USD (Normal). Upgrades are also available from cheaper ships, while Chairman’s Club members also have access to some exclusive bundles for purchase.
Other festivities as part of Alien Week in Star Citizen include previously released alien crafts going back on-sale for a limited time (with new paint schemes, merchandise and more), an intergalactic cook-off event, a trading card competition and more. Sadly, those waiting for more on the Banu Merchantman will have to continue your wait for now.
In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than $350 million USD through on-going crowdfunding. Please keep in mind should you decide to purchase towards Star Citizen, that this is an incomplete project and that you are pledging towards an extended crowdfunding campaign with no 100% guarantee of a finished product.
