Star Citizen Alpha 3.12 Goes Live

Following the usual period of Evocati and PTU testing by select groups of its playerbase, video game developer Cloud Imperium Games has today wrapped up major development this year by launching Alpha 3.12 onto Star Citizen game servers. Unofficially subtitled “Assault on Stanton“, this patch covers development work from the past few months. You can read a full official patch notes HERE.

A wealth of new content is on offer in this update, including new gameplay content, backend system improvements and graphical enhancements. These include:

New Location: Space Station Refinery Decks
Dedicated areas in Rest Stops that allow players to sell unrefined minerals, drop off mined materials to be refined, and buy or rent new mining equipment and ships.

New System: Reputation -T1
This system introduces the first foundational system of reputation added to the game. It will track a player’s relationship with various entities, such as important NPCs and organisations.  This reputation is now stored in long term persistence so that it will remain through database wipes and character resets. Currently, reputation levels with an NPC or Organization are only seen through different dialogs or access to higher paying missions.

New System: Tractor Beam Implementation -T0
Initial implementation of a Tractor Beam Device that attaches onto a Multi-Tool that allows a player to control an object at a small distance without physical contact. Its primary use is to quickly and remotely move smaller cargo and other physics based objects in gravity and zero-g. If in zero-g, it can also be used as a “grapple hook” by tethering to a large object (asteroids, space stations, ships, etc.) and pulling the player towards it.

New Ship: Esperia Talon and Esperia Talon Strike
This ship is a recreation of the Tevarin Talon by Esperia. The Talon is the Tevarin equivalent to the Aegis Gladius or Vanduul Blade; a single-seat combat ship. The Talon is the perfect example of the Tevarin way of building a spaceship: maneuverable with powerful, directional ‘Phalanx’ shields but weak physical armour, as the Tevarin way of war was to strike first and strike hard, before using their Phalanx shields to cover their escape

New Functionality: Counter Measures v1.1
With these improvements to countermeasure gameplay, the amount of deployed countermeasures will play more of an important role in the chance of spoofing missiles. Single countermeasures will be less effective, but players will have the ability to choose how many should be fired with each burst. Different missiles will have varying degrees of countermeasure resilience.

A range of other features, numerous bug fixes , and technical fixes to reduce client/server crashes.

In development by Cloud Imperium Games and their studios across North America and Europe, Star Citizen is being helmed by Wing Commander (1990s) creator Chris Roberts. The game has currently been in a long-term alpha phase with no confirmed release date. Despite this, the studio has raised more than $265 million USD through on-going crowdfunding. Please keep in mind should you decide to purchase towards Star Citizen, that this is an incomplete project and that you are pledging towards an extended crowdfunding campaign with no 100% guarantee of a finished product.
