Minecraft Invades Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in Latest DLC Character Announcement

In a brief livestream hosted by director Masahiro Sakurai last night, Nintendo unveiled that Steve and Alex from Mojang’s hit video-game series Minecraft will be joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch as downloadable fighters. The pair will be part of the second of two waves of Challenger Packs, and includes a new stage and seven music tracks from the Minecraft series.

Steve and Alex will be available to players who purchase Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass Vol. 2 or who purchase Challenger Pack 7 separately for $7.80 AUD or local equivalent on Nintendo eShop. By purchasing Fighters Pass Vol. 2 for $39.00 AUD or local equivalent on Nintendo eShop, players will get access to Steve and Alex, along with previously released fighter Min Min from ARMS and four more yet-to-be-announced Challenger Packs as they release. Each pack includes one fighter, one stage and multiple music tracks.

While the idea of another “sword user”, even with the Minecraft-themed moveset might sound a little less innovative, especially given Nintendo called out the excessive number of sword users when announcing Byleth in January this year, hold judgement until Sunday. On Sunday 4 October 2020 at 12.30am AEST, Masahiro Sakurai will hold another stream via Nintendo social media channels, where more details will be shared about Steve and Alex’s inclusion.
