Super Mario 3D All-Stars Launches Today, Get Ready For The Ultimate Nostalgia Trip

If you ever feel the urge to play any of the retro Super Mario video games, there is no shortage of options to choose from. From virtual re-releases to mini-consoles to rebuilding them in Super Mario Maker, playing many of the 2D platformer releases can be done easily without breaking out an original console. For the 3D games, options are much more limited. While Super Mario 64 has seen virtual console re-releases and a complete remake, the others are more or less relegated to their console of launch. Until now.

Marking the 35th Anniversary of the Super Mario video game franchise, Nintendo has today released the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection. Released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, this collection features optimised versions of Super Mario 64Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy on one nostalgia-laden cartridge. Optimisations include higher resolutions, improved performance and the ability to enjoy music from all three games through an in-game music-player mode. As these are not complete remakes, outside a few localisation changes to reflect the hardware, no new content is introduced in any of the games.

This collection will be available to purchase physically brand new and digitally until 31 March 2021, when sales will be discontinued. Fortunately, there are no current stock shortages at stores I visited today, so unlike the next generation consoles, you should (hopefully) be fine ordering your copy whenever.

Time to hit the beach! In Super Mario Sunshine, Mario travels to the beautiful Isle Delfino for a tropical vacation with his friends, but instead finds himself teaming up with trusty F.L.U.D.D. to uncover a shadowy plot and the master puppeteer behind it all. His newfound friend also allows Mario to traverse the island in all sorts of unique ways thanks to its wonderful water pump! And for the first time, players can enjoy the game in a new 16:9 aspect ratio.

Super Mario Galaxy (1) Preview Screenshots

Mario blasts off on an intergalactic quest to help Rosalina and save Princess Peach from Bowser’s assault of astronomical proportions in Super Mario Galaxy. Defy gravity and hop across planets with optional motion controls, or pass a Joy-Con controller to a friend for some extra help in Co-Star Mode!

Do note that this collection does not contain Super Mario Galaxy 2.
