Not for Broadcast: The Telethon Launches Five Days Early

Did you load up your Steam client earlier today, only to find a six-gigabyte update downloading for Not for Broadcast? Don’t worry, it is not an error on your end, nor has the alternate reality 1980s found itself with the ability to record ultra-high-quality video. Instead, fans of the quirky yet addictive simulation game have something to smile about.

Hearing news about games and game updates being delayed is not an uncommon occurrence in the industry. However, NotGames and tinyBuild have bucked this trend by releasing their update – titled Not for Broadcast: The Telethon – not only on-time but five days early!

Unfortunately due to COVID-19, recording of the game’s FMV clips had to be postponed. However, rather than leaving the game to collect dust on its Steam storefront indefinitely, the development team have been producing side-chapters to keep the community engaged. In June they released ‘Lockdown’, which told of the world bunkered down due to an invasion of a certain “cuddly” toy gone rogue. Now in September, we can dive into our next super-corny experience as a newsroom editor.

Recorded the moment the developers lockdown restrictions were lifted, the chaotic news simulator will take players back into the 50s. The plot revolves around you editing a TV fundraiser for terminally ill children. But not only do you have to fret about ancient, degraded archival footage, but in true Not for Broadcast style, things go horribly wrong from the start. In total, there is over an hour of new content in The Telethon, with many familiar faces returning.

In addition to the new side-chapter, Not for Broadcast: The Telethon features a new Challenge Room mode titled ‘Censorship Gone Mad’. Also being introduced is Chinese and Russian localisations, including full voice acting. Future chapters in the series will feature both languages immediately at launch.

Haven’t played Not for Broadcast yet? Until 29 September 2020, you will be able to purchase the game at a 30% discount via Steam.
