New Players of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Should Not Purchase Weapon DLC

Square Enix’s long-awaited release of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition hit digital store shelves on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android platforms as of yesterday. I for one have enjoyed the nostalgic trip as part of the Tipa caravan so far, and look forward to sharing my thoughts on the game this weekend. But there is something I would like to recommend to everyone who may be new to the game, regarding its downloadable content.

One of the new systems introduced to Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is a Mimic system, which allows players to take on the appearance of story-linked characters while travelling through dungeons. Most of the game’s current downloadable content makes use of this system, allowing you to tackle to content as characters such as King Leo (Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as King) and Layle (Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers). But also available are two weapon packs, which is unusual as… there is no weapon glamour system built into the game.

Both the ‘Moogle Weapon Pack’ and ‘Relic Weapon Pack’, instead of being visual changes only, are endgame tier weapons. While this might be good for players who have already played the GameCube release and want rush towards the new endgame content, for new players, this greatly reduces the game’s difficulty and makes it possible to one-shot or two-shot most non-boss enemies. Therefore, I would strongly recommend avoiding either weapon pack entirely, at least until finishing the main campaign. Otherwise, a lot of the game’s challenge will be non-existent.

If you have a particular Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles spin-off game character you like, go right ahead! Although not cheap, all significant characters found in Crystal Chronicles side games are available to mimic.
