If there were one issue with Square Enix releasing Kingdom Hearts III on the Xbox One, it was that none of the past games in the long-running Square Enix + Disney collaboration was available any Xbox platform. Granted the earlier instalments were also spread across different platforms, three HD collections published for the PlayStation 4 exclusively made it possible to either play or watch every Kingdom Hearts release. At least… until now. This week, Square Enix and Disney released two Kingdom Hearts collections for the Xbox One.
The first is Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, featuring the first six games in the franchise, including the two major numbered instalments – Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (cinematic version), Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (cinematic version).
Available for separate purchase is Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, which across three included titles bridges the gap between Kingdom Hearts II and Kingdom Hearts III – Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD, Kingdom hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage- and Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover (movie).
Purchased these but don’t yet own Kingdom Hearts III? Square Enix has confirmed that the game will be available via Xbox Game Pass from 25 February 2020. This coincides with the Xbox One release of the Re Mind DLC, which will be available for separate purchase on the same date.
