Following its origins as a smart device game for iOS and Android platforms in 2017, Manjuu and Yongshi’s 2D side-scrolling shooter game Azur Lane has been adapted into a 3D Action Shooter for PlayStation 4 and PC platforms by Compile Heart and FELISTELLA. While already available in Japan for some time now, Azur Lane: Crosswave is due to launch in western markets next month.

Ahead of publishing one of their first new releases for the year, Idea Factory International (IFI) have begun sharing character profiles of the ships who will be appearing in-game – either as playable characters or as secretary ship / battle support units. Over the last few days they have shared a wealth of new character profiles, and also confirmed a time-limited downloadable character in the form of ‘Neptune’ from the Hyperdimension Neptunia video-game franchise.

You can read all of these profiles with accompanying screenshots below:

Abukuma

Support Character

She looks like a demon, but acts a lot calmer than she looks. In fact, she’s so calm that it almost feels like she’s already seen everything life has to offer. This, coupled with her general personality, attracts many to her. When she has time, she is usually found munching on torpedo tempura her older sister Nagara made or simply passes the time fishing and playing Japanese chess. She decides to participate in the Joint Military Exercise event so long as she would only be in charge of support.

Amazon

Support Character

Perhaps it’s because she has the vessel history of being a flotilla leader, but in any case, Amazon acts like a veteran, and has a wanton need to lead others as Royal Navy’s young instructor. She lacks height, and is often mistaken for being younger than she is, which riles her up quite easily. On the other hand, she has the humility to apologize when she is in the wrong, and has the capacity to accept apologies too. She joins the Joint Military Exercise to offer support, and to keep watch over the participants.

Arizona

Support Character

Maybe it’s because of her vessel’s history, but she is very sensitive and has a general aura of sorrow surrounding her. She has a tendency of talking too long, but she is very brave on the battlefield, and has what it takes to be a Kansen. She believes that being proactive will make her better, so she decides to join the Joint Military Exercise as support.

Bismarck

Playable Character

Bismarck is the leader of the Iron Blood fleet, but she disappeared from the frontline after the official battle against Hood and Rodney of the Royal Navy. She’s kept a watchful eye on the Sirens since they appeared, and was somehow able to gain access to the Siren’s technology. She’s calm and generally keeps to herself, so some mistake her as being cold-blooded, but, on the contrary, she is very passionate. She didn’t want the Iron Blood to get involved with the Joint Military Exercise, but Kaga and Bismarck’s younger sister convinced her to take part. What Bismarck will experience from the event is yet to be understood…

Ikazuchi

Support Character

A part of the Sakura Empire, Ikazuchi is one of the twin sisters forming their fleet of destroyers. She can be told apart from her twin sister, Inazuma, by her distinct reddish hair. She’s quite precocious, and often tries to act mature using difficult words and terminologies. She has a habit of saying “I see,” but oftentimes she misconceives what she assumes to understand, and ends up being wrong. Because of this, her conversation with Inazuma usually end in complete disarray. It’s best to not think too deep of what Ikazuchi says. She is participating in the Joint Military Exercise to represent the twins.

Indianapolis

Support Character

A member of Eagle Union and younger sister to Portland. She has tanned skin, long pink hair, and heterochromic eyes. Not only does she look gentle, but her personality is gentle too, unlike her older sister. She dons defensive armaments, and specializes in support. She is a bit concerned over her older sister, but in general, she places full trust in her. She’s looking forward to meeting others from the participating nations, and is proud that Portland is able to participate in the event.

Ise

Support Character

A very masculine member of the Sakura Empire. She is able to carry the heaviest of armaments with ease, but her battle prowess is a bit excessive in this peaceful world. The Joint Military Exercise is viewed as an “Exercise” by Ise, so she’s taking the event quite casually. Too bad for her, since a certain incident will occur that will test Ise’s mettle!

Javelin

Playable Character

A young Royal Navy girl who has reached the pinnacle of both cuteness and slyness. Her happy-go-lucky attitude masks her clever nature very well. She becomes friends with almost anyone due to her bright smile and kind nature. She’s secretly in charge of demonstrations in preparation for the Joint Military Exercise.

Nagato

Playable Character

Nagato looks towards the future of the Sakura Empire as the Miko, the most heralded position handling the most important of rituals. She is concerned that she lacks the experience when it comes to politics in comparison to older members, such as Akagi, but that also means she has admiration towards her seniors. She was sternly trained to become the flagship for the Sakura Empire, which has made her grow more powerful than before. The Joint Military Exercise is being conducted under Nagato’s will, and despite the event’s unforeseeable future, Nagato is accepting the challenges to come.

Neptune

DLC Character

Neptune is the CPU of Planeptune, a nation in Gamindustri. She was summoned to this world for some reason. Her happy-go-lucky attitude and overall personality are set to full throttle as usual. She has visited many worlds and dimensions before, and this time, it looks like she’s teaming up with the girls of this world in order to offer them her full support.

Ping Hai

Playable Character

A girl from the Dragon Empery, a nation separate from the four major nations. She lives a frugal life with her sister who looks just like her, Ning Hai. She eats a lot, but if it’s for her sister, she will suppress her hunger and put in her very best at training herself. She was invited to attend the event, and enters the fray representing the Dragon Empery.

St. Louis

Playable Character

Eagle Union’s Light Cruiser nicknamed “Lucky Lou.” She speaks with conviction, which comes from the power she holds, and her mature aura gathers the attention of even her peers. She is the older sister to Helena, and though they seem like two opposites, they both know how to approach others with kindness, which reminds everyone of their sisterly bond. Among the many that Eagle Union sent to the event, she is one of the few who actively supports her friends.

Takao

Playable Character

A core member of the Sakura Empire who holds a simple, yet strong front, just like a samurai. She isn’t particularly interested in trends and can rarely be seen talking about such matters. She goes about her daily life being relied upon by many as a peer to Atago, and is also found acting as a mentor. Takao is on the opposite spectrum of Atago, often found being pushed around by her words, but it’s not like she has a problem with Atago; at the very core, they are great friends.

Z23

Playable Character

A member of the Iron Blood whose nickname is “Zed.” She’s always looking for ways to improve herself, and she’s also passionate about research. She’s very critical of herself and others, but will always give praise to those who she deems as worthy. She’s often found acting as a commander in battle. She was chosen to represent the Iron Blood in the Joint Military Exercise by her peers. She’s doing her very best to rise to the occasion and lead her friends to victory.
