As Persona 3 Portable (PSP) and Persona 4 Golden (PS Vita) were to their original PS2-era counterparts, Persona 5 Royal is the enhanced remake of ATLUS’ 2016/2017 JRPG Persona 5.
Following its PlayStation 4 exclusive Japanese release in Late-October this year, western video game publisher ATLUS USA have confirmed that the Phantom Thieves will re-begin their journey through palaces in North America from 31 March 2020.
As with Japan, Persona 5 Royal will only be available on the PlayStation 4 in western markets. This is despite spin-off game Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers being multi-platform on the PS4 and Switch.
So what makes it worth purchasing Persona 5 Royal when Persona 5 was released only a few years ago on the same generation of consoles? In addition to a new story-arc which takes place following the original December deadline of the original – players can expect a number of new additions including a new character, the ability to customise your personal Phantom Thieves den, new cutscenes and alternate endings, new personas, new mini-games and more.
As with many other releases from ATLUS USA, those looking to purchase Persona 5 Royal have to ask themselves the question… “Which copy of the game should I purchase?”. The game will come with a Phantom Thieves Edition, Launch Edition and special digital bundles – all of which are now available for pre-order.
