To coincide with Star Citizen Alpha 3.7 – Into the Depths hitting live servers, developer Cloud Imperium Games have decided that now is the chance to showcase their still-in-development space simulator to a much wider audience than just their backers. From now until November 3rd 2019, anyone regardless of backer status is able to check out the public test universe (PTU) and explore in one of a select number of starter / mid-tier ships.
To partake in this test, if you haven’t already, you need to create an account on the official Star Citizen website and then register that you will be partaking in the free fly. Then as with many online games, you need to download a client and wait for the sizable game files to be downloaded.
In this Free Fly campaign, you will be able to take to the skies in the Mustang Alpha, Roberts Space Industries Aurora, Banu Defender, Drake Cutlass Black and Aegis Avenger Titan. While these are not ships on as grand a scale as some of the more expensive/large ships available to pledge towards, they are arguably some of the more accessible to first time fliers. If you decide that you wish to support the game now (rather than at its final release) and pledge towards their already sizable crowdfunding campaign, Cloud Imperium Games are offering Starter Packages for each of the freefly ships at a slightly discounted rate. These include the ship of your choosing, 3-6 month in-game insurance for the ship, a small allocation of starting currency and a digital download copy of the eventual Star Citizen release (plus alpha test access which is ongoing).
Full disclosure for anyone looking to sign up during this period only. Using someone’s referral code will earn you 5,000 UEC (usable in a separate store on the website) but will give the person you are referring a P-52 Merlin snub-fighter (valued at $US 25.00 on the current pledge store) should you go ahead and purchase a package valued at $US 40.00 or more for Star Citizen.
Important Note About Star Citizen
