Free Demo Now Available for Detroit: Become Human on PlayStation Store

-

Having become immersed and enraptured in Quantic Dream’s narrative-centric experiences in Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, I eagerly await their first major release on the PlayStation 4 – Detroit: Become Human. After a wait of several years since first being announced, the time left until launch is now mere weeks. Sony Computer Interactive Entertainment recently confirmed the game has gone gold, locking in a release date of 25 May 2018

From the dark murder-mystery posed in Heavy Rain to the supernatural-thriller offered in Beyond: Two SoulsDetroit: Become Human is pitched as a neo-noir thriller following three androids in a dystopian future who begin to feel emotions.

During last year’s EB Games Expo on the Gold Coast, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PlayStation booth offered a playable (E3 2017) demo of Detroit: Become Human, which I found was both intense and rich in detail. It pits you in the shoes of Connor, an android hostage negotiator who is tasked with talking down a rogue android who has turned on his family. With a young girl’s life in the balance, your level of research of the crime scene and ability to negotiate will determine which of several favourable and unfavourable outcomes take place.

While it is fairly common for such demos to never be available outside the expos they were developed for, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Quantic Dream have made it freely available via the PlayStation Store. Whether you are just considering the game or just need something to tide you over until the end of the month, it is in my opinion worth playing.
