After announcing the game a few months back, Koei Tecmo Europe have confirmed that the latest instalment in Omega Force’s hack-n-slash game series – Dynasty Warriors 9 – will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC (via Steam). The publisher has also shared new details on the game, particularly around its battle system and new playable characters.
Whether players opt to focus just on the main storyline quests or choose to spend their time exploring the wonders offered by Three Kingdoms China, the ongoing war will continue to rage, Skirmishes, clashes, special side missions and larger scale conflicts will avail themselves to the player as they continue their journey, which Koei Tecmo claim will allow “for a sense of freedom of choice for the player previously unfelt in previous DYNASTY WARRIORS titles”. These battles will range from scouting missions to discover powerful enemy officers, to guerrilla actions, to outright sabotage. Depending on what the player accomplishes during these missions, great awards and advantages during future battles await.
Three new playable characters have also been introduced for the first time. Man Chong, from the kingdom of Wei, is a brilliant general, skilled debater, and an excellent tactician. Meanwhile, Zhou Cang from the kingdom of Shu is best known for his incredible stamina and speed. This duo will join many of the franchises’ notable characters. Xun You on the other hand is referred to as the ‘calm strategist’, having served Cao Cao and guided his army through many victorious battles.
In terms of the storyline, Dynasty Warriors 9 sets to more closely follow the personal struggles and progression of their chosen character through a number of key and secondary events – which they claim can be reached “in a myriad of different ways”. The story itself will be presented over ten chapters, each reflecting changes in the balance of power in the world, and the available actions to the player. Players will begin with the Yellow Turban Rebellion, and follow through to the unification of China.
