With very little fanfare behind its release, Bandai Namco Entertainment’s PlayStation VR exclusive music game The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Viewing Revolution has been released digitally in western markets on the PlayStation Store. This was first released in Japan around the time of the virtual reality peripheral’s launch for the PlayStation 4 last year, and is based on the Japan-exclusive smartphone game The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls, which is itself part of the wider The Idolm@ster franchise from Bandai Namco.
The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Viewing Revolution is best described as a viewing experience rather than an actual game. Taking place in a digital amphitheatre, players take the perspective of many individuals attending a concert performed by a group of the franchise’s idols. As the song plays, you can “cheer for the idols as you match the song rhythm with the concert light of your choice”.

The Starlight Stage smartphone app has offered fans the chance to experience dozens of choreographed songs for free, while Viewing Revolution will allow you to experience a concert in first-person perspective. Out of the box, this digital download features three songs – including Yes! Party Time!! (Performed by Uzuki Shimamura, Rin Shibuya, Mio Honda, Miria Akagi and Nana Abe) which first appeared in in virtual reality.
The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Viewing Revolution is now available for download via the PlayStation Store, priced at $29.95 AUD. Additional songs such as ‘Atashi Ponkotsu Android’, ‘Snow Wings’, ‘Goin!!!’, ‘Orange Sapphire’, and ‘Tulip’ will each set you back $11.95 apiece through downloadable content.
While Bandai Namco Entertainment have yet to release any of the main The Idolm@ster games to western markets, they have previously brought the series outside of Japan through the trio of Shiny Festa iOS apps.
