Currently when pledging for a Star Citizen crowdfunding package, your contribution will provide access to both the persistent universe “Star Citizen” mode and the single-player Squadron 42 campaign. While there could still be a few years to wait until everything comes to fruition, a pledge of $45.00 could gain you access to both games plus a starter ship. However very soon, the pledge system will be changing, with CIG separating the sale of Star Citizen and Squadron 42. This means that gamers will be required to purchase each game separately. As has previously been confirmed, this split will happen on Valentine’s Day (Sunday February 14).
A recent update by CIG have confirmed further information about the package split, which confirms that getting access to both games will be more expensive – but perhaps not as wallet breaking as some might have been expecting. The base price for either an Aurora starter package (Which grants access to the Star Citizen Persistent Universe) or the Squadron 42 single player campaign will be $45.00. To gain access to the other game, players will need to purchase a $15.00 add-on. With regards to the pricing, CIG have noted that these prices are not final, and are subject to change with future promotions.
Those who have an unmelt available for a non-limited package purchased prior to Valentine’s Day will still be able to restore it.
