Recent updates to Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker video game development software for the Wii U have seen a range of new character costumes made available for players to use by completing certain objectives. These include costumes based on Professor E. Gadd from Luigi’s Mansion and the three starter Pokemon from Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow (Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle). To date, these characters have all been based on main Nintendo franchises, and have not extended out to characters from other media types… until now.
Extending the cast of playable characters in Super Mario Maker by one, Nintendo have recently added Chitoge Kirisaki to the game’s costume line-up. Kirisaki is a character from the romantic-comedy anime and manga franchise Nisekoi, originally written by Naoshi Komi.
To unlock this costume, players must complete new event courses which are based on characters from the series: “Nisekoi: Chitoge & Kosaki” and “Nisekoi: Tsugumi & Marika”. While these two stages might be based on four characters from the series, only Kirisaki is currently available as a costume.
It is currently unknown if this is a one-off promotion, or if further Nintendo x Nisekoi collaborations are in the works. At the moment Nisekoi has only received one video game/visual novel adaptation, which was released on the PlayStation Vita.
