Increasing the speed in which they confirm plans to bring ‘Tales of’ games to markets outside of Japan, Bandai Namco Entertainment have announced they will be bringing Tales of Berseria to Western gamers on the PlayStation 4 and PC (Digital) at a currently unspecified date. Tales of Berseria is set to be the first game to feature a female character as its singular main protagonist.
In Tales of Berseria, players embark on a journey as they assume the role of Velvet, a young woman whose once gentle nature has been replaced and overcome with a festering anger and hatred after a traumatic experience three years prior. This experience imbued her hand with a “special ability”. Along her journey, Velvet will meet a whole cast of characters, including a young boy named Laphicet. If Velvet is the embodiment of “darkness,” then Laphicet is created in the image of “light” and will be an important ally to Velvet.
Veteran character designers of the Tales of series including: Mutsumi Inomata, Kosuke Fujishima, Minoru Iwamoto, and Daigo Okumura will return to create the game’s characters. The two announced characters, Velvet and Laphicet, are designed by Inomata and Iwamoto, respectively. Animation studio ufotable will also return to animate the game’s anime-style cutscenes.
Tales of Berseria will be available with English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Russian subtitles. I assume that the game will also feature both a new English and the original Japanese dub.
