Following on from their previous release of Toukiden: The Age of Demons, Koei Temco Europe and Australian distributor Mindscape have announced they will be publishing the follow-up game, Toukiden: Kiwami, on March 25th 2015.
Set for release on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, Toukiden’s storyline starts eight years after the Awakening and follows a newly trained Slayer based on a figment of your imagination. This game will see him/her completing a variety of missions, with the goal of eliminating Oni and freeing the heroic souls they have trapped. As this is the first time that a Toukiden title has been released on the PlayStation 4, the game comes with both the original storyline introduced in Toukiden: The Age of Demons and a brand new storyline that is supposedly “double the size of the original game”. It is hoped that the inclusion of the original chapter will more effectively allow players to familiarize themselves with the demon-ridden world and initial events that take place.
Those who already have saved data from Toukiden: The Age of Demons will be able to carry across their file. Content carried over includes weapons, armour, Mitama and progress levels.
In the world of Toukiden, Demons (Oni) have always hid in the shadows and aimed to torment mankind. Through history, a secret caste of warriors, the Slayers, have been trained to dispose of the demonic threat before it could consume the world. However, an event called the ‘Awakening’ caused rifts to appear in space and time. Through those rifts places that had long disappeared from the world resurfaced, and with them came hordes of various demons that started to relentlessly hunt humans. These demons would consume the souls of those they killed and imprison the ones of brave heroes in order to grow in size and strength. Using these souls, Oni can regenerate at a rapid rate and only Slayers are trained in the proper way to battle them. As the extinction of humanity was not far from reality, the Slayers opened their villages as sanctuaries, to protect those who escaped, and provided a last line of defence against the horror.
To mark this announcement, Koei Tecmo Europe have shared the above anime-style trailer which previews the new characters, one breeds and backstory. This is in addition to a handful of screenshots that can be found below.
