Want to Buy a Gamecube Controller Adapter for the Wii U Standalone? Don’t Bother Trying Nintendo Australia’s Customer Service at This Time

From the moment that Nintendo announced that they would be releasing a Gamecube Controller Adapter for Super Smash Bros for Wii U, it surprised me that they would only be bundling it in special editions and as a standalone purchase via their customer service line. If you were to ask me for the best approach, it would have been to release a “Controller + Adapter” bundle on store shelves alongside the standard Gamecube controller edition which is currently available for purchase – at a price $10-20 more. After all, having played Super Smash Bros for Wii U it is clear that the Gamecube controller is by far the best way to play the game.

Unfortunately with special editions in very limited supply now, many seem to have turned to Nintendo Australia’s customer support line to nab themselves an adapter. Those looking to nab themselves one now however are out of luck, with Nintendo posting the following notice on their social media channels:

Due to overwhelming demand, the GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U is no longer available to purchase from Nintendo Customer Service.

There is no word on when distribution will resume once more, but hopefully it will be through a more practical channel than “Call Customer Support”.
