Starting today, Square Enix have begun new Free Trial and “Recruit a Friend” campaigns for their online game Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Unlike the recent free weekend held for the game which was only for previous subscribers as a means to entice them back into the world of Eorzea, the free trial program will allow any gamer a two week trial for the game. Available via their dedicated website,  players can play for free for up to 14 days from account creation to a maximum level of twenty. Free trial players will have certain limitations on available in-game activities including:

  • Inability to log into the Lodestone or official forums.
  • Inability to use any paid services, unless the trial account is converted to a paid account, where all free time is lost.
  • Only eight playable characters, limited to one on each server.
  • Players must upgrade within 90 days of their trial or risk losing their characters.
  • Limited to 20,000 GIL
  • Chat / Market Board / Trading / Moogle Delivery / Retainer / Linkshell / Free Company / Party systems all feature some limitations.

The Recruit a Friend campaign on the other hand will provide recruiters with some bonus goodies should they enlist friends to join them via the Final Fantasy XIV: Mog Station. The in-game rewards include:

If a friend subscribes for 30 days, you’ll receive:

Friendship Circlet (For Recruiters and Friends)

  • Increases EXP earned by 20% when below level 25.

Aetheryte Pendulum (For Recruiters)

  • Teleport to the aetheryte closest to New Adventurers on your friend list free of charge.
  • The Aetheryte Pendulum can be used for any New Adventurers on your friend list, even if you have not invited them via the Recruit a Friend campaign.

If a friend subscribes for 90 days you’ll receive:

Draught Chocobo Whistle (For Recruiters)

  • A special hand-carved whistle used to summon a draught Chocobo, capable of accommodating a second passenger when partying with others.
