Destiny Beta Test Sees More Than 4.6 Million Gamers Take Part

-

Activision and Bungie should both be ecstatic about just how many gamers from around the world decided to take part in their beta test of Destiny on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox360. The company has confirmed that between July 17th and Sunday evening, a grand total of 4,638,937 unique players took part in the test at some point, having the opportunity to try out a small sampling of the game.

It is far too early in this generation to be boasting about this milestone given there is very little to compare it to, but the companies are now boasting that this has been the biggest beta test of this console generation by a wide margin.

Eric Hirshberg | CEO of Activision Publishing

This is the biggest beta of this console generation by a wide margin and the largest console beta ever for a new video game IP to date. Hosting a beta at this scale is an incredible feat, so we’re thrilled to see the phenomenal response. But the beta is just a taste of what’s to come. We’re counting down the days to our launch day, September 9th.

Pete Parsons | COO of Bungie

We were totally blown away by the number of people who played the beta. We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable. We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we’ll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch.
