Assassin’s Creed Memories Announced – Just Another Smartphone Card Game?

A new collaboration between GREE, Ubisoft and PlayNext was announced earlier today, which is set to see another smartphone/tablet instalment in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series. Titled Assassin’s Creed Memories, this newly announced game is considerably different from anything released in the franchise prior – setting out to merge card battle, RPG and strategy elements.

Rather than sticking with one time zone, players are left to use a “mobile Animus” device to traverse history in order to build a powerful guild, recruit famous allies and defeat rival players. Some of the listed time periods confirmed for initial release include ‘Renaissance Italy’ and ‘Colonial America. They hope that the gameplay will feature a “deep and engaging single-player experience” and that their 20 v. 20 multiplayer gameplay will also be a highlight. Given how many card games there already are in the smartphone market, it needs to be if Assassin’s Creed Memories will ultimately stand out from the crowd.

Jean Michel Detoc | Managing Director, Ubisoft Mobile Division

The card battle genre has been hugely popular around the world and GREE and PlayNext have demonstrated their know-how and expertise on such games. With such expertise, we really believe they’re bringing a great new way to enjoy the richness of the Assassin’s Creed universe to mobile players

Eiji Araki | Vice President, Social Games, GREE, Inc

We’re thrilled to bring our expertise in mobile games to a renowned brand like Assassin’s Creed and to work with a company that has brought so much to the gaming world. The card battle genre is all about being able to evolve and grow great heroes and this franchise has created some of the most epic characters in gaming today.

JT Nguyen | Chief Operating Officer, PlayNext, Inc.

We are passionate about creating great experiences for mobile players and we have applied all of our learnings and success with past games to Assassin’s Creed Memories. We want to capture all the excitement and beauty of Assassin’s Creed and apply it to a completely new experience for mobile players.
