Despite not having even released in the Japanese market yet, the PlayStation 4 video game console has been off to a phenomenal start around the world despite not having a greatly huge library of games for it yet. Sony Computer Entertainment have today announced that the console has cumulatively sold more than 5.3 Million units worldwide as of the 8th February 2014.
Andrew House | President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season. We are delighted that according to the NPD Group’s latest data, PS4 was January’s top-selling console in the United States. The PS4 system’s momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation® fans. February 22 sees the launch of PS4 in Japan, and I’m looking forward to Japanese fans sharing the excitement of the deep social capabilities and entertainment experiences only possible on PS4.
To be honest the PlayStation 4 as with the Xbox One has proved little more than an overpriced blu-ray player at this point in time, however with numerous mainstream and indie titles set for release on the console in the next few months, I am looking forward to seeing how more development studios have handled the increased capabilities of the now “current generation” consoles.
