Otakon Open Kickstarter Page for "Crisis Heart Brawlers, Clash at Otakon!" 1

The team behind Otakon, one of North America’s biggest anime conventions are teaming up with Studio Nasu to hopefully be bringing us an official video game based on the convention entitled “Crisis Heart Brawlers: Clash At Otakon!”. This will be a beat-em-up fighting game inspired by the gameplay of games like River City Random, Double Dragon and Castle Crashers. Here is a brief blurb on this game:

Crisis Heart Brawlers: Clash at Otakon is a classic arcade style side scrolling beat ‘em up in the vein of games like River City Ransom, Double Dragon, Castle Crashers, and the TMNT Arcade game. Easy to learn and fun to play, CHB is chock-full of popular anime themes and internet memes.  Gameplay features the classic arcade action of our favorite brawlers mixed with elements of modern two-player fighting games, all the while including the hilarious and nostalgic moments that we’ve all experienced at cons and watching our favorite anime.

The initial game will feature 4-6 characters, 4-6 stages, and 2-4 player local multiplayer for PC and mac. With enough resources, we want to add online play, more modes (like VS play), more characters and stages, and release on other platforms, like consoles and mobile.

Premise

Our heroes are excited to attend the 20th anniversary of Otakon, their favorite anime convention. However, the evil mastermind Dr. V has found a way to make some of the most infamous anime villains into a living, fighting army, and he’s attacking Baltimore! Use all of the skills you’ve learned over the years of watching anime to fight the horde of animated baddies, and discover the secret of the strange artifact behind all this trouble: the Crisis Heart!

The game is set to feature art by a number of people including Robert DeJesus, TW Hord, Dave Lister, Jason “Crybringer” Robinson, Chris Niosi and Kevin Bolk, music by Eyeshine, Jake “Virt” Kaufman, DJ Cutman, Inverse Phase and more and voice acting by some of todays well known English dubbers including Johnny Yong Bosch, Cristina Vee, Kyle Hebert and Todd Haberkorn to name a few.

How can you help with this game hitting market? Well as the title of this article states the companies have opened a Kickstarter page which can be accessed HERE. The initial goal of $20,000, with a total of $7,832 currently pledged by 98 backers. There are a lot of options when it comes to goodies associated with pledging, from the simple $1 which gives you credit at every level on their website to the highest $10,000 pledge which allows you to join them in the studio at New Generation Pictures and watch all the magic happen. Many of the upper level pledges are limited to a very small number of people however.

Either way, while there are a number of these fighting games on the market, I think given the conventions popularity I think they might be able to pull off something unique and memorable in the genre.
