IO Interactive to Showcase Hitman G-2 Crowd Technology at GDC 2012 1

G2-Crowd Technology, a feature of IO Interactive’s new proprietary game engine – Glacier 2 is set to be previewed at the upcoming Game Developers Conference this week, but the company today unveiled a very impressive preview screenshot which can be seen above. Built up from the ground by the team at IO, Glacier 2 was tailored to meet the demands on the development team and will be implemented in their upcoming release of Hitman: Absolution

This technology will allow them them to implement very dense crowds and allow players to both interact with and influence the behavior of every individual character. The lead physics programmer from IO, Kasper Fauerby will be introducing the technology behind this achievement and describing the techniques and optimization used to allow the system to replicate crowds of 1,200 characters. While I am unable to attend the event, I am sure we will be hearing more about this very soon.
