For Australian musical theatre audiences, a cast recording rarely offers the chance to revisit the performers they saw on stage. The local production of Beetlejuice The Musical is getting that opportunity, with a Melbourne opening night recording set for release through Eddie Perfect’s new record label, Excited Animal Records.
Beetlejuice The Musical: Live At The Regent Theatre Melbourne features the very original Australian cast of Beetlejuice the Musical, including Eddie Perfect, Karis Oka, Elise McCann, Rob Johnson, Tom Wren and Erin Clare, with the album also featuring previously unrecorded material. Unfortunately, this likely means that we won’t hear any of the songs performed by Andy Karl, who took over the role for Perfect in subsequent seasons internationally and in Brisbane.
Pre-orders are now available across several packages, including different vinyl options. A limited edition first pressing signed by Perfect is available to pre-order.
The release preserves a production whose life beyond Melbourne proved shorter than planned. Beetlejuice The Musical made its Australian debut exclusively at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in 2025, before returning in mid-2026 for what was intended to be a national tour, beginning at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre in Brisbane. A few weeks into that run, the Australian producer cancelled the remainder of the tour, cutting the Brisbane season short and cancelling all subsequent stops. The album will give audiences a way to hear the Australian cast again, while also offering those who missed the production a recording of its opening night.
There may be more to follow beyond Beetlejuice. The release is intended to be more than a one-off project for Excited Animal Records, raising the prospect of further Australian live cast recordings in the future.
