The Australian premiere of the Broadway musical Tootsie is scheduled to take place at Teatro at the Italian Forum later this month. With rehearsals currently underway in Sydney, the production has released initial images of the cast in their costumes. The show is set to officially open on 26 May 2026 at the city’s newest performance space.
Based on the Oscar winning film that starred Dustin Hoffman, the musical adaptation features a book by Robert Horn and a score by David Yazbek. The narrative of Tootsie follows Michael Dorsey, a talented actor with a reputation for being difficult to work with. In a state of desperation to find employment, he adopts the persona of Dorothy Michaels and lands a significant role.
Andrew Bevis has been cast in the dual lead role of Michael Dorsey and Dorothy Michaels. He is joined by Sydney Theatre Award winner Elenoa Rokobaro as Julie Nichols, Alana Tranter as Sandy Lester, and Tyran Stig as Jeff Slater. The supporting cast includes Brendan Irving as Max Von Horn, Donna Lee as Rita Marshall, Chris Huntley-Turner as Stan Fields, and Lachlan O’Brien as Ron Carlisle. The ensemble for this production consists of Sam Austin, Lisa Callingham, Katie Green, Arthur Lees, Maximillian Macdonald, Jessica Parris, Jamie Reisin, Julian Seguna, and Nicole Vella.
