With its Sydney return season currently underway, it has been confirmed that The Book of Mormon the Musical will be returning to Melbourne’s Princess Theatre from February before moving to Brisbane’s QPAC from July. The production last toured Australia a decade ago, with its 2015 Melbourne premiere before a national tour.
Across both cities, the cast will feature Sean Johnston as Elder Price and Nick Cox as Elder Cunningham. Paris Leveque makes her professional debut as Nabulungi, joined by Tom Struik as Elder McKinley, Simbarashe Matshe as Mafala Hatimbi, Augie Tchantcho reprising The General, and Matthew Hamilton as Mission President.
The Book of Mormon the Musical follows two mismatched missionaries dispatched far from Salt Lake City. With a creative team consisting of Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone – the creative minds behind works such as Avenue Q and South Park – if you haven’t seen the show already, then you will be in for a comedic treat. Design and music departments include set designer Scott Pask, costume designer Ann Roth, lighting designer Brian MacDevitt, and sound designer Brian Ronan. Orchestrations are by Larry Hochman and Stephen Oremus, with Oremus also serving as music director and vocal arranger.
The Australian season is produced by Anne Garefino, Important Musicals and Suzanne Jones for Jones Theatrical Group. Ticketing information for both legs of the national tour will be available on the musical’s official website, with waitlists for both Melbourne and Brisbane seasons currently open for pre-sale ticket access.
