Tickets have gone on sale this week for the Australian premiere of the Broadway musical ANASTASIA, set to open at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre in April 2026. Presented by John Frost for Crossroads Live and Opera Australia, the production follows its upcoming December 2025 season at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre, and a March 2026 run at Perth’s Crown Theatre.
Pre-sale access for Sydney tickets began on Monday for members of the waitlist, with general public sales starting Friday 4 July. Audiences can sign up for priority access via the official ANASTASIA Australia website. Further casting details for the Australian production will be announced in the coming months.
Inspired by the legend of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov and the 1997 animated film of the same name, ANASTASIA transports viewers from the final days of Imperial Russia to the vibrant streets of 1920s Paris. The story follows Anya, a daring young woman in search of her lost identity. Pursued by an imperial officer intent on silencing her, she joins forces with a charming conman and a former aristocrat on an adventure to find home, love and family.
The musical features an opulent array of sets and costumes alongside a score that includes songs from the animated film such as “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December”, in addition to some new songs. The stage adaptation was created through the partnership of book writer Terrence McNally and composers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, with direction by Darko Tresnjak.
ANASTASIA premiered on Broadway in March 2017, where it ran for three years. Since then, it has toured North America and been staged in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico and Japan.
