Audiences across Queensland will, from tomorrow evening, have the opportunity to experience Swan Lake in a bold new light, as part of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre’s (QPAC) 2025 International Series. From 6pm on Friday 13 June until 6pm on Sunday 15 June 2025, Swan Lake by France’s Ballet Preljocaj will be available to stream for free via QPAC’s Digital Stage online platform.
Directed by internationally renowned choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, this reimagined interpretation of Swan Lake blends classical ballet with contemporary expression. Fusing Tchaikovsky’s iconic score with modern electronic elements, the production transforms the familiar tale of love, betrayal and seduction into a striking modern tragedy. The score is performed live by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Johannes Fritzsch, further deepening the emotional resonance of this hybrid vision.
The performance, which was recorded during the productions 4 June 2025 performance in the Lyric Theatre, offers audiences an opportunity to witness the work of one of Europe’s most influential contemporary ballet companies.
In addition to the online stream, QPAC will host a free outdoor screening on its Melbourne Street Green in Brisbane at 7:30pm on Saturday 14 June. With limited seating available, attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure a place.
Regional audiences across Queensland can also access the free broadcast at a range of participating venues, including locations in Ipswich, Mackay, Maryborough, Noosa, Port Douglas, Proserpine, Roma, Dalby, Miles, Surfers Paradise, Gladstone, Kingaroy, Nanango, and Bundaberg. Local venues will confirm their individual screening times, with involved venues listed HERE.
