The 40th anniversary Australian tour of CATS, the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, is set to arrive at Crown Theatre Perth in November. Producer John Frost for Crossroads Live confirmed the Perth season as part of a broader national tour celebrating four decades of the musical across the country.
Originally premiering in Australia in July 1985 at the Theatre Royal Sydney, CATS will commence its current tour at the same venue on 7 June before moving to Her Majesty’s Theatre in Adelaide from September, Crown Theatre Perth from November, and Hamer Hall at Arts Centre Melbourne from December. It is quite possible that more states have yet to be announced.
John Frost, producer of the tour, shared his thoughts on the enduring popularity of the musical, and their bringing it to Perth:
CATS is a legendary show that I’ve admired for over 40 years. A sparkling fusion of music, dance and verse, it was revolutionary when it first opened and enticed new audiences into the world of musical theatre. I can’t wait to bring the original production of CATS back to Australia to celebrate its 40th anniversary, and I know Perth audiences will love to revisit one of their favourite shows. Australia has an enduring love for CATS and it’s time to let the memory live again.
Ticket waitlists are now open for the Perth season via the official CATS Australia website.
