Melbourne’s summer cultural calendar will feature the return of BMW Opera for All, a free public event set to take place at Fed Square on Saturday, 1 February 2025. Combining the talents of the Australian Girls Choir, Opera Australia performers, and musicians from Orchestra Victoria, the event sets out to present an evening of operatic highlights and timeless arias.
For the first time, the Australian Girls Choir (AGC) will deliver a 30-minute prelude performance, showcasing their vocal artistry with a selection of songs, including You Raise Me Up, You’re The Voice, and beloved Australian classics like My Island Home and I Still Call Australia Home.
Founded by Judith Curphey OAM over four decades ago, the Australian Girls Choir has grown to include more than 6,500 choristers across six Australian cities and Singapore. Known for their performances at prominent events such as Carols by Candlelight, the Australian Open, and alongside artists like Hugh Jackman and André Rieu.
BMW Opera for All, now in its third Melbourne iteration, is part of BMW Group’s broader cultural engagement initiatives. This year’s concert will celebrate significant milestones, with Opera Australia approaching its 70th anniversary and the Australian Girls Choir marking over 40 years in Australia’s cultural landscape.
The event will feature performances from some of Opera Australia’s leading artists, including soprano Olivia Cranwell, mezzo-soprano Dimity Shepherd, tenor Shanul Sharma, and baritone Christopher Hillier. Accompanied by a 20-piece live orchestra from Orchestra Victoria and conducted by Brian Castles-Onion, the concert will deliver an unforgettable operatic experience.
BMW Opera for All is free to attend, with no registration required. For more information, visit the event’s official page on Opera Australia’s website.
