For the final stop on the theatrical production’s tour across Australia, The Woman in Black has now arrived at Theatre Royal in Sydney, where the production will run until 17 August 2024. For those who are keen on seeing one of the longest running theatrical production’s on London’s West End, brought to Australia by PW Productions, Woodward Productions and Neil Gooding Productions, tickets can still be booked, with more information on the show’s website.
Adapted by Stephen Mallatratt from Susan Hill’s ghost story, this stage version of The Woman in Black is noted for its atmospheric and chilling narrative. The play also features a cast of just two – iconic Australian actor John Waters filling the shoes of detective Arthur Kipps, and Daniel Macpherson filling the complex role of ‘The Actor’.
Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black, written in 1983, is a staple of gothic literature. The novel follows Arthur Kipps, a young solicitor sent to oversee the funeral of a client, Mrs Alice Drablow, at Eel Marsh House. As Kipps delves into the secrets of the house, he encounters the mysterious Woman in Black, leading him to uncover its haunted past.
