After a year of touring Australia, the latest Australian production of Mary Poppins the Musical is set to commence at the Crown Theatre in Perth next month. This season will start 9 September 2023, and shall follow the Adelaide season at the Festival Theatre which is set to wrap-up on 27 August 2023.
This stage adaptation of the original stories by Australian-born author P.L. Travers, eventually adapted to screen, and later stage, by Disney, has already entertained audiences in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide, and shall be the final stop on the tour before the winds completely change, taking Mary Poppins out of Australia for however long it may be.
Having filled the roles from the beginning, the Perth season will see Stefanie Jones and Jack Chambers fill the shoes of Mary Poppins and Bert respectively, with Patti Newton to also retain her role as the Bird Woman – following her time with the Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide seasons. Additional principal cast members include Tom Wren as George Banks, Lucy Maunder as Winifred Banks, Helen Walsh as Mrs Brill, Gareth Isaac as Robertson Ay, Robert Grubb as the Chairman and Admiral Boom, Chelsea Plumley as Miss Andrew, Cherine Peck as Mrs Corry, Lisa Sontag as Miss Lark, Kade Hughes as Neleus, Stephen Anderson as the Park Keeper, and Andrew Broadbent as the Policeman. The leading cast also features eight young performers who will rotate in the roles of Jane and Michael Banks during the Perth season.
The Australian production of Mary Poppins the Musical is a collaborative effort, produced by Cameron Mackintosh, The Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand, and Michael Cassel Group. Ticketing information can be found via the show’s official website.
